With this application, you can monitor the motion of a mass-spring system in real time using your device's camera.
The application automatically detects the position of the mass through image processing, displays the displacement-versus-time graph, and calculates the average oscillation period.
Instructions:
-
Suspend the mass from a spring so that it can oscillate freely.
-
If you are using a mobile device, place it on a stable support with the camera facing the mass-spring system.
-
If you are using a computer, position the mass-spring system in front of the webcam.
-
Position the mass in front of the camera and keep it oscillating slightly.
-
Click the Turn On button to enable the camera. The application will automatically capture the equilibrium position of the mass.
-
When the message Baseline captured. Pull the weight down, release it, and click Start. appears, follow those instructions.
-
If the green line is not close to the base of the mass-spring system, click the Restart button and repeat the procedure.
-
Click the Start button to begin data acquisition.
Buttons:
-
Starts or pauses data acquisition.
-
Turns the device camera on or off.
-
Restarts the experiment and performs a new calibration.
-
Downloads the experimental data, including time, displacement, and mass velocity.
